Moving to Thailand

When you move to Thailand, you might consider taking some or all of your household goods with you. There are three methods of transport to Thailand, namely air freight, a private sea container and groupage sea transport. Together with you, Transpack can determine the best method of transport for your move.

The costs of moving to Thailand

The biggest advantage of moving by sea container to Thailand is the cost. A huge number of containers go on one boat, which means that the price is naturally lower than when moving by air freight. If you use groupage transport to Thailand, you also share the sea freight costs with others, making it extra cheap.

How long will my belongings take to get to Thailand?

How long your belongings will take to get to Thailand depends on the kind of transport you choose. If you choose air freight, your belongings can be expected in your new home within 2 to 3 weeks (note: remote locations and islands in Thailand can take longer!). If you choose to move by private sea container, it will take about 7 to 9 weeks and with groupage 10 to 12 weeks.

What should I take with me when I move to Thailand?

To help you prepare for your trip, we have put together a few tips for you. Make sure that you do not send documents, keys, medication, jewelry and other important items in your sea and/or air freight shipment. Always take these things with you.

ClothingIt is important to take light clothing with you to Thailand. Think of natural and cotton materials for the warmth and high humidity. It is also certainly advisable to bring a lightweight jacket or sweater. Inside offices or shopping malls, it can feel cool because of the air conditioning.
Travel plug The main voltage in Thailand is 220 Volt and the frequency is 50Hz. You need an adapter plug if you bring electrical devices.
MedicinesCheck if your medication is available in Thailand and what the maximum amount is that you can take with you. Also check if you need a medical certificate to take your medication with you when traveling.
DocumentsTake important documents such as passport, visa documents etc. with you in your hand luggage – also make copies.
Personal itemsThink of your favorite care products, things that remind you of home and other things that shouldn’t be missing when traveling.

Tip: bring a set of extra clothing in your hand luggage in case your checked-in luggage is delayed or lost.
