This applies to migrants who come to New Zealand for permanent stays, returning to a permanent residence permit, temporary residents or returning New Zealand citizens.

It is also possible to import hereditary goods without payment of duties and taxes, provided that you can prove that the goods are wanted or given as part of the estate of the deceased person.

In respect of alcohol and tobacco products, import duties and taxes must be paid. There are also very strict controls around the following limited goods : http://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Ente/Goin/Arrival.
