Cape Town Box: ship a parcel or moving box to South Africa affordably, for one fixed price

Not enough for a full move, but too much for a suitcase? With the Cape Town Box you ship up to 1 m³ by sea freight from the Netherlands to Cape Town, for one fixed price. Ideal for a small move, emigration, returning to South Africa or a parcel for family. You fill the box yourself. We ship it from our warehouse in Nootdorp to our partner’s warehouse in Cape Town, where you collect it.

€299: warehouse to warehouse, with sea freight, customs clearance and two weeks of free storage in Cape Town included. VAT-free; any payment fees are charged in addition.

How it works

  1. Book your box online. Fill in the form and choose a preferred date to drop off your box at our warehouse in Nootdorp. We confirm the date and send you an invoice, which you pay before drop-off.
  2. Fill the box. Take the box home, or pack it at our warehouse. You will receive the packing list by email: fill it in as soon as you know what goes in.
  3. Drop off the box. Bring the full box and the packing list to Nootdorp at the agreed time. Your invoice must be paid by then.
  4. We ship your box. Your box travels with the next container to Cape Town, where our partner handles customs clearance.
  5. Collect your box. We let you know as soon as your box is ready in Cape Town. You then have two weeks to collect it. After that, storage fees may apply.

Customs

You are moving to or returning to South Africa. Your belongings then count as household goods. You pay no import duties or VAT, as long as the items are yours, you have already used them and they are not new. Besides your passport, you will need a residence or work permit (or proof that you are returning) and the packing list. Our staff will guide you through the forms.

You are sending items to someone in South Africa. This is possible too, for example gifts for family. The recipient then pays import duties and 15% VAT on the value of the contents, so please state the value honestly on the packing list.

New items, and items that do not fall under the rules for household goods, may incur higher customs costs. These costs are not included in the price and are payable by the recipient.

Collection in Cape Town

You collect your box from our partner in Cape Town. You will receive the address and opening hours with your booking confirmation. You have two weeks after customs clearance to collect your box; after that, storage fees may apply. Not in South Africa yet when the box arrives? Let us know, and the box will stay in storage until you are there.
